1st edition of J. van der Haghen's very influential revision of Nicolaus van Winghe's authorized Dutch text of 1548. As revised by Van der Haghen, Van Winghe's text remained the standard Catholic version of the Dutch Bible until 1599, when a new trsl. appeared, based on the Sixtin Latin Vulgate published in 1592. Woodcut illustrations : t.-p. in a woodcut frame and with Bergaigne's armorial device, c. 150 woodcuts incl. 1 double-page and 1 full-page; c. 30 decorative initials + c. 50 repeats, thousands of 3-line uncial initials, probably cast. Some of the woodcuts are printed from the blocks used for the 1548 ed. (from Vorsterman's 1530 Bible), but some are new and copied from Holbein's  "Icones Historiarum Veteris Testamenti" (1547). The double-page woodcut shows the court of the tabernacle with "Gods' tent", surrounded by the tents of the 12 tribes and others. Early ownership entry on t.-p.
