Description
Uncommon Dutch trsl. of a Latin treatise (1st 1637) on art in Antiquity by Fr. Junius (1591-1677): “a great compilation which explores the labyrinth of Western aesthetic memory” (Droz). Prelims include a letter by P.P. Rubens (1 August 1637). Full-page portrait of Junius by W. Hollar after Van Dyck facing p. 1. Full-page woodcut (at end) with the statue of Laurens Koster and a view of Haarlem, together with a hommage by A. Roman to Koster’s invention of printing in 1430 (!).
