First French ed. (first Dutch ed., Leiden 1613) of one of the earliest accounts of the famous and bloody siege of the city of Ostend by the Spanish army written by the Dutch bookseller H. van Haestens. Engr. ills : front. with portrait of Prince Maurits of Nassau, engr. vign. on title, coat-of-arms of Prince Maurits and 14 pl. i.a. plan of the city of Ostend. Ostend was one of the most important Flemish coastal towns and one of the few towns in the Southern Netherlands that was not yet re-conquered by the commander of the Spanish army, Alessandro Farnese. During 3 long years (1601-1604) the Royal Army laid siege to the town and finally conquered it. Armorial bookpl.
