Description
vellum, flat spine with gilt label, sp. edges, marbled endpapers renewed, [10]-201-[3], 204, 204, 201-[3] pp. (cut short occ. shaving fore-edge margin). Good copy.
Mainz ed. of the emblems of the German humanist Camerarius (1534-1598), 1st publ. 1590-1593. Ill. with 400 circular engravings. The 1st part concerns botanical emblems: “a hundred attractive little etched roundels of plants set against landscape backgrounds” (Blunt). The remaining 300 plates show birds, snakes, amphibians, fishes, mammals and insects.
