London, Adam and Charles Black, 1908. In-4°; front. and 49 pl. protected by tissue guards with caption (foxing, slightly browned). Publisher's binding : white cloth, upper board and flat spine decorated in green and gilt and with gilt titles, gilt top edge (soiled, spine browned). FIRST EDITION illustrated with 1 frontispiece and 49 plates by the watercolourist Ella Du Cane. With her sister Florence, writer, they travelled the world unchaperoned after their father's death. They visited Japan, China, Madeira, Egypt and the Canary Islands.
