lvs (wormholes in the first half, small marks of folds in the beginning, dampstains in the margins -2 largers in lvs 69 and 70, first quire partly unbound, lvs 153 and 154 slightly yellowed otherwise fresh copy). Contemporary binding : calf, decorated boards with agilt central fleuron encircled by 3 blind fillets with gilt fleurons in the angles, title with pen on the top edge (entirely rubbed with ornaments partly left, spine lacking, upper board partly unbound, corners and parts of the edges dulled). Treatise on criminal law (1„ed. : 1551) with a manual of procedures by the famous Belgian jurist and humanist de Damhoudere (1507-1581), first book on this particular subject ever published in Northern Europe. Edition given by the jurist from Mantova Leonardo Legge (half of 16. Cent). Copy with text on two columns and with the printer’s mark on title-page. Provenance : Ludwig de Damhoudere 1585. Ludwig was the only child of the author and member of the Council of Flanders.
