latin. Plein vélin rigide estampé à froid, double encadrement, décor en médaillon au centre, dos à nerfs titré à l'encre (reliure d'époque). En 1672, l'ouvrage latin de Pufendorf De jure naturae et gentium libri octo fut publié en allemand en 1711 sous le titre «Huit livres de la nature et du droit international». Avec sa vision juridique d'une loi naturelle laïque (loi de la raison) et le plaidoyer pour un droit international uniforme, Pufendorf a eu une influence significative sur la philosophie juridique et étatique allemande, mais aussi européenne aux XVIIIe et XIXe siècles et est devenu l'un des pionniers des Lumières. Samuel von Pufendorf était un juriste allemand, philosophe politique, économiste et historien. Il fut anobli en 1684 par Charles XI de Suède quelques mois avant sa mort à 62 ans. Parmi ses réalisations figurent ses commentaires et révisions des théories du droit naturel de Thomas Hobbes et Hugo Grotius. Il était impliqué dans des querelles constantes avec les cercles cléricaux et devait fréquemment se défendre contre des accusations d'hérésie, bien qu'il ait des opinions largement chrétiennes traditionnelles sur des questions de dogme et de doctrine. Quelques annotations manuscrites marginales à l'encre, en latin et phrases soulignées. Bon état général malgré état d'usage (pages brunies, quelques rousseurs). PROVENANCE Librairie de F. Full cold-stamped full rigid vellum, double framed, medallion decoration in the center, spine ribbed and titled in ink (contemporary binding). In 1672, Pufendorf's Latin work De jure naturae et gentium libri octo was published in German in 1711 under the title "Eight Books of Nature and International Law". With his legal vision of a secular natural law (law of reason) and his plea for a uniform international law, Pufendorf had a significant influence on German, but also European, legal and state philosophy in the 18th and 19th centuries and became one of the pioneers of the Enlightenment. Samuel von Pufendorf was a German jurist, political philosopher, economist and historian. He was knighted in 1684 by Charles XI of Sweden a few months before his death at the age of 62. Among his achievements were his commentaries and revisions of the theories of natural law by Thomas Hobbes and Hugo Grotius. He was involved in constant quarrels with clerical circles and frequently had to defend himself against accusations of heresy, although he held largely traditional Christian views on matters of dogma and doctrine.
